Welcome to Bright
Haven Barrydale
A continuous pathway from early support to independent adulthood.
Bright Haven Barrydale operates a life-span, continuous-support framework designed to empower the youth of our community. We believe in creating a journey where every child is supported from their early years through to adulthood, bridging the gap between essential care, specialized education, and real-world vocational training.
By integrating nutrition, safety, and individualized learning, we provide a seamless, end-to-end pathway that prepares our youth for a meaningful, independent future.

The Three Pillars of Our Framework
1. Children@Heart: A Protective Network Safety and safeguarding are essential for growth. Children@Heart is our secure and confidential reporting hub for parents, family members, and concerned citizens. We facilitate clear referral pathways to health and social services, ensuring that at-risk children are protected through professional, formal support systems.
2. Inclusive Classrooms: Specialized Neuro-Affirming Education Our school provides a dedicated, neuro-affirming environment specifically for neurodiverse children who require a tailored approach to learning. We deliver highly individualized schooling focused on building a strong foundation of core skills and wellbeing routines, ensuring every student is prepared for their journey with dignity.
At our school, every child is seen, valued, and supported for exactly who they are. We have created a safe, nurturing, neuro-affirming learning environment where neurodiverse children can grow at their own pace, in their own unique way. Through compassionate, highly individualized education, we focus not only on academic foundations, but also on emotional wellbeing, confidence, daily routines, and life skills.
We believe that with the right support, patience, and understanding, every child can thrive. Our classrooms are spaces of dignity, encouragement, and belonging — where children are empowered to discover their strengths, build resilience, and prepare for their future with confidence and joy.
3. Skills Development Centre (BSDC) The BSDC is our bridge to adulthood for young adults (ages 14+). We have already begun this journey through active programs in music, singing, dancing, arts & crafts, and small-scale agriculture.
While these programs are currently active, we are in the process of securing a dedicated building for the Centre. Once our permanent home is established, the BSDC will officially expand to serve both neurodiverse and neurotypical students, creating a truly integrated space for technical training and social-emotional growth.
- We will post regular updates as we progress toward securing our new facility.

I am Elizabeth..
Elizabeth Beer is a dynamic yoga and mindfulness leader who is deeply passionate about spreading positivity and well-being. As Team Lead at Bright Haven NPC, she is known for her transformative work in bringing yoga, mindfulness, and happiness to communities. After her immersive training with the Art of Living International NGO in India, where she became a certified Happiness Teacher specializing in Sudharshan Kriya, Elizabeth has embarked on a mission to share inner peace and balance with the world.
Her Mindful Living Programme is a holistic approach, blending yoga, mindfulness practices, and stress-reduction techniques. It has already touched thousands of lives in the Western Cape, with plans to expand into schools in the Overberg area, starting with Barrydale. Elizabeth’s journey began in 2009, and since then, she has become a certified yoga therapist and a children’s yoga specialist, tailoring her teachings to people of all ages.
Through her work at Bright Haven, Elizabeth is transforming communities one yoga pose at a time, helping people find calm, joy, and resilience in their everyday lives.
I am Cherie..
Cherie Dirksen is an artist, self-empowerment author and musician currently living in Barrydale. She taught art and upcycled craft at a local youth upliftment center for 5 years and has been part of the Barrydale community for 11 years, since moving from Fish Hoek in 2014.
I am Robert..
Robert has a passion for researching, presenting & implementing ecologically sound landscaping & lifestyle design solutions.
His qualification in Horticulture (ND Hort -1997) and many years of experience in landscaping and as a nurseryman, was completely transformed following a Permaculture Design Course – PDC – 2013.
He has consulted and is working in collaboration with local and international dryland regenerative specialists, developing communal land in Barrydale, Western Cape, and has designed various education & training modules related to his passion and calling.
With a clean slate, and literally terraforming from slate, Robert has seen an oasis with wonderful, cooperative gardening & education opportunities for the children/students, and all being involved at the Bright Haven school premises.
Robert will be starting in the new school term during July 2026, following a simple, self-informing Permaculture design and education process. This approach leads to various inspirational and practical projects, embracing interactive learning exercises while immersing children in the therapeutic qualities of nature and providing an integrated and grounded educational experience. In doing so, it fosters a sense of coherence, permanence, and culture, all of which are integral to the permaculture vision.
DEFINTION:
Permaculture is a conscious approach to land management and settlement design, that adopts arrangements observed in flourishing natural ecosystems. It includes a set of design principles derived, using whole-systems thinking and applies these principles in fields, such as regenerative agriculture, town planning, rewilding, and community resilience. The term was coined in 1970’s by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, who formulated the concept as an alternative to modern industrialized methods, instead adopting a more traditional or “natural” approach to agriculture.
I am Denel..
